CHARITY BAKER

Charity Baker is a painter based in New York City. Formally trained in architecture she received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Pratt Institute. In 2016, she enrolled at the New York Studio School for a Drawing Marathon with Graham Nickson and stayed through her MFA graduating in 2019.

Charity makes rich and adventurous paintings which center around the observation of her immediate environment. Referencing art history she builds a contemporary narrative, distinguished by her travel and experiences.

In 2018, she was awarded a summer residency at Chautauqua School of Art where she began to paint night landscapes. She was awarded the Mercedes Matter/ Ambassador Middendorf prize twice in 2019, and 2020; and the Hohenberg Travel Grant from New York Studio School in 2019. Charity is an assistant teacher in the New York Studio School Drawing Marathon courses under Graham Nickson.

She is represented by Art in Res (NYC), and currently shows work at Force Gallery Projects and Wing Art Gallery (UK). Her work resides in private collections nationwide.
