This lecture is part of our ongoing WTF Art History series of lectures about the spicey, challenging, and confounding side of art.
Jenny Saville paints enormous paintings of enormous women, and she is not taking any of your patriarchal crap about it. She’s got bold ideas about representing women’s bodies, and delicious brushstrokes that will make you drool.
This lecture stars Saville’s lusciously painted, occasionally eerie, invariably mesmerizing images of women, trans people, and even a few men – well, maybe they’re men. With special guest appearances by a rock band, plastic surgeons, and Leonardo da Vinci (don’t worry, he won’t stay long). A fleshy feast for the eyes courtesy of an astounding, brilliant, bad-ass figure painter!
