Wheel Throwing: Altered Forms in Pottery
In this Altered Forms class, you’ll focus on wheel-throwing techniques. You’ll also explore ways to alter pieces both on and off the wheel, ultimately creating forms that move beyond traditional round pots. Emphasis will be on design and craftsmanship as you shape clay into unique and dynamic forms.
Projects include, for example, paddling, darting, squaring, faceting.
Additionally, you’ll assemble multi-part thrown pieces by integrating hand-built elements; meanwhile, you’ll experiment with creative uses of the potter’s wheel. As a result, you’ll expand both your technical skills and your design possibilities.
We’ll dive into techniques like deconstructing and reassembling pieces to push creative boundaries. The class highlights blending shapes along with surface decoration and glazing to achieve cohesive, finished works of art.
Prerequisites: Beginning Wheel 1 and Beginning Wheel 2.
