Wheel Throwing: Altered Forms in Pottery

Focus on wheel-throwing techniques and explore ways to alter pieces on and off the wheel to create forms beyond traditional round pots. Emphasis is on design and craftsmanship as you shape clay into unique and dynamic forms. Projects include paddling, darting, squaring, faceting, assembling multi-part thrown pieces, integrating hand-built elements, and experimenting with creative uses of the potter’s wheel. We’ll dive into techniques like deconstructing and reassembling pieces to push creative boundaries. The class highlights blending shapes with surface decoration and glazing to achieve cohesive, finished works of art.

Prerequisites: Beginning Wheel 1 and Beginning Wheel 2.
