Self Portraits
- Teacher: Ruthie V.
- Class Length: 5 days
- Date: August 14 – 18
- Time: 9:30 – 12:30 pm
Students will have the opportunity to expand both technical and expressive skills in this self portrait drawing and painting camp. The human face is fascinating and expressive, every face and personality extraordinary. We will examine common pitfalls in portrait drawing such as pancake face, boring poses, bad references, and more. Each day we will use an interesting portrait from art history as the jumping off point for that day’s work. Students will study how to work realistically and beyond into contemporary modes. We will work from life and from altered photographs, explore and experiment with modes, materials, and composition.
Students will use graphite, charcoal, acrylic paint, cardboard, paper, and canvas. At the end of the week there will be a show of work in the Seattle Artist League Gallery.
All materials provided.
