Firing a pot in the raku style is exciting and fiery. The results are unpredictable but they’re amazing.
For this exciting raku firing camp, students will first be guided through a range of hand and wheel forming techniques. They will expand their skills with slab, coil, and pinch methods, as well as learning wheel–throwing skills and techniques such as centering, pulling cylinders, shaping, trimming, pulling handles, decorating and glazing.
For the raku firing, a special session will be scheduled outside after the pots have dried and been bisque fired, and teens are invited to participate in the firing of their pots, with care for safety.
Since Raku pieces can never be food or microwave safe it better to always make sculptural or decorative pieces instead of dinnerware.
Clay is never boring; there is always more to explore, more to try out and more to create. This is a highly repeatable class.
