Contemporary Vessels Hand-Building Techniques; Achieving Height and Elegance

Elevate your skills to new heights with us! Learn essential skills for contemporary ceramics with our 8-week Contemporary Vase Creation course. This Level 2 Ceramics class is uniquely designed for those who aspire to combine artistic expression with functional design. Our focus? Crafting tall, eye-catching vases up to 31 inches in height, using hand-building techniques.

Throughout the course, you’ll explore and master various hand-building methods including coil, slab, and carving, primarily working with terracotta clay. Learn to defy gravity and create vessels and vases that are not only tall but also embody elegance and structural integrity. We’ll cover essential skills like joinery, building independently stable curves and angles, and applying reinforcements to ensure your creations stand tall and proud.

By the end of your class, you’ll have the skills to design and create your own large contemporary vessels, blending traditional pottery techniques with a modern twist. These stunning pieces will be a testament to your skill and creativity, suitable for enhancing any space. And remember, once you can defy gravity with clay, you can make anything!

Your finished pottery will be both microwave and dishwasher safe (though you might need a very large dishwasher, and a very very large microwave).

Prerequisite: Beginning Pottery from any school.

Come dressed comfortably, with clothes that can get messy.

Tools and materials will be provided – One 25 lb of clay is included in price. Additional clay can be purchased for $18.

Open Studio Hours: 7 days a week!
