      Defying Gravity

This 8-week course Level 2 Ceramics class is designed to help potters reach new heights with handbuilding, literally! Participants will take on the biggest challenge for any potter: GRAVITY. You’ll learn to overcome the natural limits of clay by using a variety of building and sculptural techniques to create strong, graceful, and architecturally significant forms.

The course will address strategic construction techniques as well as how to save something that’s reaching for the ground. Achieve stronger bonds and pieces, and design structural integrity by learning about joinery, independently stable curves and angles, and reinforcements. Sessions will focus on hand building techniques using terracotta clay, utilizing coil, slab, and carving methods.

By the course’s conclusion, participants will possess the skills to build 2 feet tall terracotta structures. This class offers an opportunity to merge traditional building, innovation, and creativity while mastering the techniques needed to create impressive ceramic pieces.

Pottery will be microwave and dishwasher safe, but you will need a very large microwave.
