Creativity often becomes obscured by expectations, habits and the desire to make something good. What happens when we remove the opportunity to second guess and just make? In this workshop, we’ll create quick drawings or paintings in rapid succession, allowing no time for planning, editing or judgment. As the mind runs out of familiar ideas and self-consciousness begins to soften, unexpected images and insights can arise and artists might start to tap into their subconscious. The purpose is not to produce finished work but to clear a path of hidden ideas and unfiltered potential. This class offers a space to release perfectionism, reconnect with the creative process and discover what appears when we get out of our own way.
Materials:
Bring any drawing or painting materials you enjoy working with. This could include pencils, charcoal, pens, colored pencils, pastels, watercolor, gouache, or other portable paints. Please also bring paper or a sketchbook appropriate for your chosen materials. Feel free to bring a variety of supplies to experiment with throughout the class.
