Day 1: Intermediate Wheel Throwing Techniques
Guided by our experienced instructor, you will build upon your existing knowledge and explore more advanced techniques to create forms on the pottery wheel. Refine your throwing skills, master centering and pulling techniques, and challenge yourself with more complex shapes and designs. This day will provide ample time for hands-on practice and individualized guidance to help you elevate your wheel throwing abilities.

Day 2: Trimming, carving and decorating.
The second day will be trimming and giving your pieces texture, pattern, maybe even handles.

Day 3: Raku Firing and Glaze Exploration
The third day will focus on the captivating Raku firing process and the exploration of unique glazes. Under the expert guidance of our instructor, you will learn about the specific glazes used for Raku firing and their interaction with the intense heat. Discover the magic of Raku glazes as they transform during the firing process, creating mesmerizing effects and captivating finishes on your wheel-thrown pieces.

Outdoor Firing Experience

One of the highlights of this workshop is the outdoor firing experience. At peak temperature, your steady puffy-gloved hands will carefully operate tongs to move your pieces from the kiln and place them in reduction chambers filled with combustible materials. Experience the alchemical dance of fire, smoke, and reduction as your pottery undergoes a dramatic transformation, resulting in distinctive crackles, metallic accents, and vibrant colors. It’s an unforgettable sight that will deepen your understanding of the Raku process and exhilarate your artistic journey.

Take Home Your Pottery

After the workshop, you will have a collection of original Raku pottery pieces to showcase or share as treasured gifts. Each piece will bear the mark of your artistic growth and the captivating allure of Raku firing. Additionally, you will gain a deeper understanding of intermediate wheel throwing techniques and the intricate interplay between form, glaze, and fire.
