In this pottery class students will improve their skills in making expressive ceramic vessels and tableware through throwing clay on the potter’s wheel.

Pottery: Wheel 2: Lidded Vessels

Students will focus on lidded vessels. During this course students will concentrate on lidded vessels with special attention given to good design and production techniques. Possibilities include sugar bowls, tagines, casseroles, lidded tea mug, lidded canisters, butter dishes, and ginger jars. The use of the slab roller could be incorporated into the design of items. At the end of the course students will be proficient with different lid forms, including cutting lids from closed forms and the use of hand-building tools. Students can decorate with textures and patterns that can alter glaze appearances, resulting in vivid contrasts and highlights.

Pottery Classes at the Seattle Artist League

Join us for pottery classes in our 2,700 square foot studio in Seattle’s Georgetown Arts District. We offer classes for beginning ceramics in wheel throwing, hand-building, firing, and glazing. Our pottery classes are open to beginners and intermediate potters.

About the Instructor

Since receiving his Masters in Fine Arts, Scott has worked as a professional ceramics artist and ceramics instructor. He spends his time in the studio making work, teaching classes, being with his family, and anything outdoors (mountain biking, hiking, cross country skiing).
