Handmade Ceramic Chess Set

Who’s ready to make a chess set that’s as bold as your checkmate? Join us in the ceramics studio where you’ll craft a completely custom chess set from start to finish—no boring, store-bought pieces here! Whether you’re into knights with wild manes, rooks shaped like treehouses, or pawns wearing top hats, this is your chance to turn your chessboard into a playground for your imagination.

We’ll begin by shaping the clay into your chess pieces—classic or quirky, it’s all up to you. Want a regal set straight out of a medieval saga? Go for it. Or maybe you’re imagining something totally offbeat, like a team of woodland creatures facing off against a battalion of robots? Absolutely. Once your pieces are sculpted, you’ll move on to the board itself, crafting tiles that can be as sleek or wildly decorated as your heart desires.

Decorating is where the magic really happens. Paint your pieces with vibrant underglazes, go bold with patterns. Whether you lean towards the elegant or embrace the absurd (pawns in pajamas, anyone?), your chess set will be anything but ordinary.

So, who’s ready to create a chess set that’s both a game and a conversation piece? All skill levels welcome—just bring your creativity, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Materials and firing included. All skill levels welcome!
