Museum Crawl

  • Teacher: Charity Baker
  • Class Length: 8 Weeks
  • Class Days: Tuesday, beginning October 29
  • Time: 10:00 – 1:00 pm PST

In this class we will view current museum and gallery exhibits around NYC and abroad together through Zoom, and then create drawings to explore key issues of how a drawing becomes successful, in some cases to last through the test of time.

The class time will be divided first by looking at art together, then making drawings in response to what we learn.  Drawing exercises will include both transcriptions and original work from direct observation.  We will study how certain subjects like the figure, still life and landscape have been utilized and changed throughout history.  We will also analyze how certain periods in time (ancient to contemporary) and certain artists in particular have organized their expression of form and space, ideas, process, geometry, line and composition– and how our understanding of these elements can be used as a narrative in our own work.

The goal is to create serious drawings of our own based on what we learn by looking at others;  homework will be assigned in some cases to further that endeavor.

All levels welcome.
