Intuitive Drawing & Painting

Start where you are. Trust what happens.

This process-based class is for students who want to begin with a blank canvas and learn to paint by responding—not by copying. You’ll explore how to start, how to see what’s happening in your work, and how to follow where it leads. Along the way, you’ll learn how to mix your own colors—including a simple method for creating vibrant and subtle neutrals—using just a few key pigments. Designed for beginners, returners, and anyone feeling blocked, this class offers a supportive structure for experimentation, risk, and personal meaning. No experience necessary.

Whether you’re new to painting, returning after a break, or feeling stuck in your process, this class offers a supportive structure for experimentation. You’ll practice layering, gesture, and mark-making as ways to discover direction, emotion, and rhythm in the work. Technical tools like color mixing and composition will be introduced along the way—but always in service of your own process.

This class is ideal for:

  • Beginners who feel overwhelmed by technique-focused courses
  • Artists looking to reconnect with play, risk, and personal meaning
  • Creatives from other disciplines who want a way in
  • Anyone seeking a looser, more responsive approach to painting

No experience necessary—just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to begin.

This is a flexible, process-based class. You do not need everything on this list to begin. Bring what you have, choose a few paints, a few tools, and some surfaces to work on. Add more as you go.
