Overview

This unique independent study offers a dedicated space and time for artists to explore and develop their work in drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Held in our spacious studio, participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and materials to work on.

The most important endeavor for any artist is to find an authentic way to express themselves. This class is designed to help you find your own direction, catering to the continuing artist who appreciates the camaraderie of others, or someone seeking a boost to their creative practice. As an active painting studio and feedback-based class, artists will have opportunities to give and receive substantive, no-tears critiques. You’ll also learn how to articulate your artistic vision, enhancing your ability to talk about your own work. This environment is suitable for both realist and abstract creatives.

Personalized Support

Every two weeks, artists will be invited to schedule one-on-one sessions with Ruthie. These meetings are designed to discuss your work, help set personal goals, and provide tailored advice and support. This individualized approach ensures that each artist receives the guidance they need to advance their skills and projects.

Community and Collaboration

Participants will share the studio space with other artists, creating an enriching environment of mutual inspiration and support. While working independently, you are invited to engage with your peers, discuss your work, exchange ideas, and possibly collaborate. This community aspect is central to the experience, fostering a dynamic and creative atmosphere.

Additional Learning Opportunities

Though not mandatory, artists have the option to join lessons and slide shows in the adjacent studio class, which offers a structured approach with focused themes and weekly assignments. While these assignments are compulsory for participants of the neighboring class, independent study artists can choose whether to engage with these projects or follow their own creative paths, providing flexibility in your learning and studio experience.

Facilities and Storage

We are currently designing a new storage area for paintings, to better accommodate and protect your artworks. The studio will provide safe storage options for your paintings and sculptures, ensuring that your works are protected while you’re not on-site.

Materials

Come as you are, with whatever materials you prefer to use. Oil, acrylic, watercolor, dry media, clay – all are welcome. Be prepared to share your work, and receive recommendations tailored to the work you present.

Join us for this invitation-only program designed for artists who seek a supportive, flexible, and inspiring environment to develop their work. Whether you’re looking to explore new ideas or refine existing projects, our studio is your space to create, learn, and grow alongside like-minded peers.
