FREE Pet Painting & Drawing Workshop w/ Ruthie V. & Merl SUNDAY AFTERNOON 8.23

$0.00

  • Teacher: Ruthie V. & Merle
  • Sunday, August 23
  • 2:00-4:00pm

Join us for a free public art-making session drawing, painting, or sculpting Merle, Seattle Artist League’s beloved studio dog and longtime mascot.

Ruthie V. will begin with a visual tour of animals in art, including works by Rembrandt, David Hockney, Jean Dubuffet, Alexander Calder, and others. We’ll look at approaches ranging from close observation to exaggeration and abstraction, followed by optional prompts exploring gesture, silhouette, repeated views, invented color, texture, unusual cropping, and the relationship between the animal and the surrounding space.

Then we’ll make art together. Follow a prompt or pursue your own approach while working from our charming and occasionally moving model.

Choose one medium: drawing, painting, or clay sculpture. Materials are provided. This is an independently paced art session rather than a beginning lesson, so participants should have basic familiarity with their chosen medium. All skill levels are welcome.

Free and reduced-cost access to Seattle Artist League programming is made possible through funding from 4Culture, helping us make art education more accessible to our community.
