“Fran O’Neill opened my eyes to a whole new realm of ideas and approaches to drawing and painting, simply by some brief comments she sketched on the back of an envelope. O’Neill is a great teacher, and I encourage everyone to take at least one of these two workshops: Abstracts Intensive or Drawing Intensive.”
– Ruthie V.

Fran O’Neill: Giant Figures: Intensive

The drawing intensive operates with the underlying assumption that drawing is a direct examination of (and possible challenge to) our perceptions and experience of the world. Drawing is transformative to an art practice. We will be working from one or more live models, primarily using charcoal on paper, with other materials introduced on a case by case basis.

Days will be full, as we will work from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; if there is interest and need, those hours may be extended. The scale of the work will range from moderate to larger than life size as we examine the interaction of the picture plane, along with strategies to explore further pictorial elements of drawing. A review of each students’ work will form the basis for the culminating critique. The class is open to all however, some drawing experience is best.
