MODEL PRIVACY: No recording, photography, or screen shots are allowed in our Figure Drawing sessions. To protect the privacy of models, they have the option to wear minimal clothing. This is a change from our typical figure drawing classes, and will continue as long as these classes are offered online. Sometimes, the times call for a fig leaf.

Drawing at The Met!
- Teacher: Charity Baker
- Class Length: 8 Weeks
- Class Days: Tuesday, beginning February 4
- Time: 10:00 – 1:00 pm PST
Explore The Metropolitan Museum of Art together via Zoom in this intensive, hands-on drawing course. We will focus on the historical significance of key works in the museum and use them as inspiration to build your drawing skills. Together, we will analyze how artists create impactful drawings that endure over time and apply these insights to produce meaningful work of our own.
The class time will be divided first by looking at art together, then making drawings in response to what we learn. Drawing exercises will include both transcriptions and original work from direct observation. We will study how certain subjects like the figure, still life and landscape have been utilized and changed throughout history. We will also analyze how certain periods in time (ancient to contemporary) and certain artists in particular have organized their expression of form and space, ideas, process, geometry, line and composition– and how our understanding of these elements can be used as a narrative in our own work.
The goal is to create serious drawings of our own based on what we learn by looking at others; homework will be assigned in some cases to further that endeavor.
All levels welcome.
