Constructing a Painting with Color & Shape:

In the Landscape

Great paintings throughout history have embodied the powerful use of color and shape to communicate memorable images. Our focus will be to find new ways of using color and organizing shapes to create more pictorially interesting paintings. Strategies in color mixing and strengthening the composition are of major importance in this workshop. Master paintings will be worked from directly to deepen our understanding of the elements utilized in great paintings and ways in which we can incorporate some of these possibilities in our own paintings. We will work in the studio and outdoors, locations to be determined, for the duration of the workshop.

This is an IN-PERSON adult class.

Plein Air Painting with Color & Shape:

In the Landscape

Great paintings throughout history have embodied the powerful use of color and shape to communicate
memorable images. Our focus will be to find new ways of using color and organizing shape to create
more pictorially interesting paintings. We will explore the use of color as light in the painting, along with
color organization and color as an expression of the individual painter. The structure in a painting will
be of major interest and how we can use shape to build the space we are observing in the natural world.
Master artworks will be studied directly to deepen our understanding of the elements utilized in great
paintings and the ways in which we can incorporate some of these possibilities in our own paintings.
We will work outdoors, locations to be determined, for the duration of the workshop.

This is an IN-PERSON adult class.
