Build a Still Life for Drawing and Painting
with Jina Jansson + Seattle Artist League
A 60-minute workshop with Jina Jansson, followed by a 20–30 minute break and an optional 90-minute facilitated drawing and painting session. Join Jina for a practical workshop on building still lifes for drawing and painting. Jina brings nearly 30 years of experience in visual and project management, including two decades at Sur La Table, where she leads Visual Merchandising. She has a strong eye for how objects and light work together in space. In the first hour, students will work in small groups to build their own still life setups. Jina will guide them through the basics of a good setup, including grouping, proportion, negative space, shadow, and light direction.
After a short break, students may stay for an optional studio session to draw or paint from the still life they created. This second portion is self-directed and best for students who are comfortable working independently.
Materials
This is an Artist’s Choice drawing and painting session. Bring the drawing or painting materials you prefer to use and feel comfortable working with independently. Seattle Artist League will provide still life objects, drapery, chairs, easels, horses, drawing boards, and palette stands. Students are also welcome to bring a few objects of their own to include in their group setup.
