Beginning Pottery

This beginner friendly series of classes will introduce you to the most accessible way to make a pot, then guide you through a range of building techniques available to potters. You can advance with the clay, increasing your repertoire of forms using slab, coil, and pinch methods, as well as learning to throw on the wheel. Participants will be taught basic wheel–throwing skills and techniques such as centering, pulling cylinders, shaping, trimming, pulling handles, decorating and glazing. Participants will practice making cups, handled mugs, bowls, plates, and vases on the pottery wheel. Decoration will include a variety of colorful slips and glazes. Pottery will be microwave and dishwasher safe.
Clay is never boring; there is always more to explore, more to try out and more to create. This is a highly repeatable series of classes.

Come dressed comfortably, with clothes that can get messy.

Pottery Classes at the Seattle Artist League
Join us for pottery classes in our 2,700 square foot studio in Seattle’s Georgetown Arts District. We offer classes for beginning ceramics in wheel throwing, hand-building, firing, and glazing. Our pottery classes are open to beginners and intermediate potters.
