Beginning Drawing 2: Responsive Drawing FRIDAY AFTERNOONS begins 4.11

$395.00

    • Teacher: Ruthie V.
    • Course Length: 8 sessions
    • Class Days: Fridays, beginning April 11
    • Time: 2:300 pm – 5:00 pm

Responsive Drawing – The artist responds to the subject’s movement, emotions, or surroundings while sketching.

Drawing is not just about seeing—it’s about responding. This course moves beyond accuracy and into interpretation, rhythm, and composition, where every mark contributes to a cohesive whole. We begin with gesture and mass, capturing weight and movement, then refine and respond—adjusting, pushing, and organizing shapes, values, and rhythms until the drawing fully comes to life.

We will start from observation and gestures, with the goal to transform what we see into something more vital, structured, and expressive. Through a series of timed drawings, artists will be guided step by step into the responsive process. We’ll practice shaping reality into drawings that are more than the sum of their parts—they feel alive, intentional, and whole.

When inside, we will draw from still lifes, but for daytime classes – weather allowing – we will also visit a nearby park to gather sketches.

PREREQUISITE: Beginning Drawing 1. For continuing artists who want to see with clarity, respond with fluency, and create with intention. THIS IS A REPEATABLE CLASS.
