Over 4,000 30SAL Artworks posted to Padlet and Instagram
In January, artists all over the globe sketched, inked, sculpted, collaged, and animated their way through our 30 Day Creative Challenge. Challenges exercised a wide array of artistic skills, including observation, composition, sequence, see & respond, vocabulary, and transcriptions. If you think “Uh… January was a long time ago. It’s April.” Yeah. I’m with you. I’d expected to be wrapping up this project at the end of February, but even though the challenges were complex and demanding, participation grew as the month went on, and by the end of January there were over 4,000 30sal artworks posted to Padlet and Instagram. These were the best of the best – the ones that repeatedly caught my eye.
Each one of these artists has earned prizes for their creative contributions.
1st Prize: $500 cash 2nd Prize: $250 SAL Gift Certificate 3rd Prize: $150 SAL Gift Certificate Honorable Mentions: $50 SAL Gift Certificates
Honorable Mentions
These are the artists and artworks that continued to catch my eye. Each of these artists win a $50 gift certificate to the Seattle Artist League. Artists, please contact me within the next 30 days for your prize!

Dana posted several great artworks, but this Mashup with “Andy Warhol” by Alice Neel, and “The Pink Dress” by Berthe Morisot was so overwhelmingly fabulous, I had to post it on it’s own.

Bacchus and Ariadne
Finally, the three top artists. Third place wins a $150 gift certificate to the Seattle Artist League. Second wins a $150 gift certificate, and First wins $500 cash! These artists produced artworks that were one great thing after another. They were thoughtful, clever, expressive, personal, relevant, effective, original, and well put together. These artists generously raised the bar with their contributions, day after day.

This transcription below is one of my favorites from the year. It is unexpected but an inspired use of pattern and pathways. An absolutely stunning composition. Incredible work!
Transcription of Titian’s Bacchus and Ariadne
Transcription of Poussin’s The Triumph of Pan
FIRST PLACE: Rachel Wilch
Out of over 4,000 entries, this was hands down the piece of the year. It’s compositionally tight, skillfully assembled, timely, personal, and powerfully relevant. Transcription of Manet’s Luncheon on the Grass. This is the mic-drop piece of the 30SAL Challenge for 2022. Well done Rachel Wilch!
Though I can’t do your pieces justice because many of them were video animations, each one was incredibly creative and on point. I missed the transcription of Bacchus and Ariadne the first time around, but I didn’t miss it this time. It’s a contemporary Greek story in 3 simple frames. Fabulous.

@rachelwilch TFW Bacchus texts u. Seattle Artist League 30 day challenge. Day 20: Transcribe Titian’s Bacchus and Ariadne. Ariadne has been deserted by her lover Theseus, whose ship is seen sailing away. Bacchus, god of wine, emerges with his revelers, falling in love with Ariadne on first sight. Titian’s painting shows her initial fear, before he raises her to the heavens and turns her into a constellation.
Are we there yet? If there is a better Op Art piece for these times, I have not seen it, and can not think of it.
Thank you everyone!
There were over 4,000 entries on Padlet and Instagram, a generous display of ideas, personality, and tenacity. It was a daily joy to watch the collection grow and develop over the month. My respect and appreciation to all of you who participated – from those of you who made one drawing, to those of you who made thirty – each sketch was a valuable artistic contribution, and it’s incredible what you all produced! Thank you!
A special thank you and congratulations to the artists above, who raised the bar for friendly competition for us all, and earned special recognition for your work.
