New Scientific Discovery
Did you hear? Scientists discovered a new __________ . The scientific name for it is __________ . It looks like a __________ , it acts like a __________ , and it lives in __________ .
Fill in the blanks, and draw, collage, or assemblage what this new discovery is.
You can use this free online Latin dictionary to help you come up with scientific names. Or use a list of common Greek and Latin words used in systemic names. You might need to drop letters, like an “s” on the end, or add letters, like e, l, or o in the middle, or an us or um at the end. For example, a search for “hairy” brings up pilosus [pilosa, pilosum] so you could have a gloss–pilosus anthos (a hairy tongued flower). Try combining combining two species: a plant with an animal, or an animal with an insect, or something around your house like a sarco-socki piscis (a fleshy sock fish), to invent something new and surprising.
