Last weekend was our first annual Seattle Artist League Printmaker’s Show. On display were 30 pieces; beautiful displays of monotype, drypoint, linocut, woodcut and reductive woodcuts in black and white, and color. All of the prints were strong and interesting. Nikki has a way of getting good work out of people.
We asked guests to compliment prints that stood out to them. I’m posting those, plus the works that won my attention. Four earned the People’s Choice award $25, $50, $75, and $100 gift certificates for future classes at the League. See some of our favorites below.
My choice faves

Hoot
Delores Haugland, Nest, Drypoint and Monotype
The layers in “Nest” by Delores Haugland held people’s attention for quite a while. That blue sings!
Delores was kind enough to let me display the plate, so people were able to view both, and try to decipher a bit of the process.
3rd Prize
Khalil Justice Linane, Stalker, Woodcut
All three of Khalil Justice Linane‘s prints were incredibly rewarding to look at. While the two listed above as “My Faves” displayed exceptional skill with the medium, this one received many special compliments for style. Well done Khalil, you win a $75 gift certificate.
Khalil Justice Linane: Solo show in the works!
I was so impressed by Khalil’s work that I invited him to have his own solo show this summer. Details to come.
Well done printmakers! Thanks to all the friendly people who came to see the work. It turned out to be a very social weekend. I adore and admire you people. See you again soon!

10 teams collaborated for this blind drawing challenge. Each team member emailed me their drawings without their team mates seeing what they drew, and I assembled them. Yesterday I posted about “The Language of Color” in which John H. McWhorter points out that some languages don’t have the words ours does to describe colors. Ancient Greek was one such language, and did not have words for yellow, green, or blue. In The Iliad, Homer refers to “the wine dark sea.” Upon examination, …
